The currency used  in Uganda is the Ugandan Shillings (UGX). The current exchange rate is approx. $1 to UGX 3700. You can usually use US dollars to pay for accommodation and tours. The Ugandan Shilling is a closed currency; you cannot get hold of UGX outside of Uganda and cannot change any leftover UGX back into your home currency when you depart Uganda.

All nationalities are required to obtain a visa to visit Uganda. A single-entry tourist visa to Uganda costs $50 and can be obtained at entry at the airport. You need to have proof of vaccination against Yellow Fever to visit Uganda. You will need to upload a copy of your Yellow Fever certificate to apply for a visa.

Homosexuality was declared illegal in Uganda since the time of British colonial rule, it’s now strengthened by law through an act of parliament recently signed into law by the President. Theoretically, it could result in a sentence of up to 14 years in prison (but foreigners are rarely subjects of investigation).
